The creation of the Code of Hammurabi. The King of the Babylonian Empire decreed the earliest and most complete written legal code. The 282 laws were originally carved into a massive monolith of black diorite, 8 feet high.

July 4, 1776: The Declaration of Independence, written by Thomas Jefferson, declared the 13 colonies as independent from British rule and described the purpose of a "human" government. It is considered the founding document of the United States.

Arabella Mansfield became the first woman in the United States admitted to the bar. She passed the bar examination in Iowa by studying law alongside her husband and without having attended law school.

Our Attorneys

Kevin Thomson

Founding Partner, Music & Entertainment Attorney

Kevin Thomson is a founding partner at the law firm of Thomson Ollunga LLP. His practice focuses on music and entertainment law, contract negotiation, deal structure, royalty collection, advising artists, songwriters and music producers, film companies, actors, directors, and creators. 

Formerly an A&R at Bad Boy music publishing and producer management, Thomson has significant experience in film and television production, talent management, and high-profile producer representation. 

Cited by Forbes magazine as a “phenomenal dealmaker”, Thomson spends the majority of his time working alongside clients in various capacities. Priding himself on being a less than typical lawyer, Thomson advises and manages multiple aspects of his client’s careers, liaising with them on the majority of their deals, jump starting their businesses and leading them to focused, long-term careers. 

Thomson holds a J.D. from Queen’s University and an M.A. in music business from New York University. He is admitted as an attorney in the Province of Ontario.

Samuel Ollunga

Founding Partner, Corporate Attorney

Samuel Ollunga is one of the founding partners at the law firm of Thomson Ollunga LLP. His practice focuses on general corporate law, securities law, mergers and acquisitions, startup law, venture capital funding, intellectual property law, not-for-profit law, and public and private international law. Mr. Ollunga’s legal experience spans three continents.

Prior to co-founding the firm, Mr. Ollunga served as the Corporate Counsel for Acker, Merrall & Condit, the oldest wine merchants in the US and one of the leading wine auction companies in the world. Mr. Ollunga has previously worked as a capital markets and mergers and acquisitions attorney at two of the world’s most prestigious law firms: Davis Polk & Wardwell LLP and Latham & Watkins LLP. He holds an LL.M. from Harvard Law School, and another from the University of Cambridge, with a primary focus on public and private international law. He holds an LL.B. from Moi University in Kenya, and a diploma in law (a requirement for admission to the Kenyan Bar) from the Kenya School of Law. He is admitted as an attorney in the State of New York and in Kenya.

Mr. Ollunga is the author of a book of poetry and has written numerous articles on law and world affairs.

Juliet Gobler

Senior Associate, Litigation Attorney

Juliet Gobler is a senior associate at Thomson Ollunga LLP, having joined the firm in 2017. She heads the firm’s Litigation Department. Juliet Gobler represents individuals and businesses in civil litigation cases throughout New York. She also works alongside our ever-growing network of attorneys to monitor our clients’ legal matters throughout the country and abroad.

Juliet Gobler is admitted to practice law in New York and New Jersey. She is a member of the Alternative Finance Bar Association.

Juliet Gobler began her legal career at a commercial litigation firm on Long Island, where she worked her way up from a law clerk to an associate attorney. During law school, Juliet Gobler’s legal experience was focused in the public sector, including internships with the King’s County District Attorney’s Office, Nassau County’s Department of Social Services, and Nassau County’s Surrogate Court under the Honorable Edward W. McCarty, III.

She earned her Bachelor of Arts from Stony Brook University in Women’s and Gender Studies, and her Juris Doctorate from Hofstra University School of Law. Juliet Gobler served as the Managing Editor of Staff of the esteemed Hofstra Labor and Employment Law Journal. Juliet Gobler was the sole recipient of the annual Citation of Excellence in the Community & Economic Development Clinic, where she counseled and represented non-profit organizations.
